Between March 2012 and May 2012, I dyed my hair 4 times and bleached my hair 5 times. I have no excuse for why I did it except that I was really stupid and wanted to experience new hair colors. I went from brown, to red, to blonde, to light-brown, then to black. The damage to my hair was beyond repair by the end of May. I had it chopped just below the tip of my ears to get rid of the straw-like, dried, split-ended, and fried beyond belief mess of a rat’s nest my hair had become. I truly thought my hair was never going to grow back, but it did though at a very slow pace.
Months past and I finally just got used to the thought that I was going to have to live my whole life with weak brittle short hair when I found out about Biotin from a relative. That lead me to do some research on Biotin and MSM, which is another supplement they recommended to take along with Biotin. After debating about whether or not to buy them for weeks I decided to stop hesitating and just go for it. I went to my local drug store and purchased a bottle of Biotin 1000mcg, MSM 1000mg, and some vitamin pills. To be honest I really didn’t expect anything from them. If they didn’t work then I lost nothing but $10 and I would move on with my life.
However, much to my amazement they did work. My hair started growing faster, was shinier, and stronger. I was, and still am, completely at awe at the miracle of Biotin and MSM. I started taking them in the first week of December 2012 and my hair barely grazed my shoulders but now in January 2013 it’s about 3 inches below my shoulders. Truly amazing since it took me between May 2012 and November 2012 to grow exactly that much. While the end part of my hair is still damaged due to the bleaching, I recently finally found a shampoo and mask to make it more tolerable so I am completely happy about my hair right now, which is something I thought I would never say again.
To anyone who says that they don’t see any improvement or growth, I would just tell them to be patient and regularly take Biotin for months–not days. You don’t really expect to see any change, after so many years of neglect, in a matter of a couple of days do you?
My only warning to people who are thinking about taking Biotin is to do their research since Biotin can cause major acne outbreaks. I had heard that you were supposed to drink plenty of water to keep the acne at bay but I ignored the warning and just drank pop. A couple days after taking Biotin, I woke up to two big cystic acne on my chin. Talk about painful! It took about two weeks for it to heal and fade away. Since then I don’t drink pop anymore and drink about 8 cups of water everyday. My skin has become clearer and no longer have any small annoying bumps on it. I haven’t have any major outbreaks either which is wonderful for me.
I love this product and plan to use the Biotin 5000mcg once I run out of of the 1000mcg. (*Updated: I couldn’t notice the difference between Biotin 5000mcg & 1000mcg so I just continued to used the 1000mcg. Much cheaper!)
*UPDATED*October 28, 2013
Here’s a quick update on how long my hair’s has been since taking Biotin.
I stop taking Biotin & MSM around March due to part laziness and my hectic work schedule. It halted my hair from growing and I was left with the same hair length for quite awhile.
I resumed taking Biotin & MSM back in July and was happy to see my hair growing again. Yesterday night, I took a measuring tape and measured my hair from my shoulders to where it now rest. My hair has grown about 8 inches since January! 8 INCHES!!! I was jumping around the house like I won the Jackpot or something. It was a very happy moment for me especially since I really thought that my hair was never going to grow again after the dying process I put it through last year.
I’m really happy with this product and I can’t wait for my hair to grow even longer so I can whack the dyed over-processed part off and start anew with healthy hair.
Take care everyone!
